Exploring Charleston's Dog-Friendly Events in August


As the sun-drenched days of August approach, the Holy City comes alive with a plethora of events that celebrate the city's vibrant community spirit. Charleston offers a host of activities where your furry companions are not just welcome but are the stars of the show. Here’s a roundup of some exciting dog-friendly events happening in the local area this month!


1. Summer Tuesdays at Magnolia Plantation

Date: Every Tuesday in August

Location: Magnolia Plantation

Time: 1:00-8:00 pm

Summer Tuesdays is a time for visitors to enjoy a sunset picnic, local beer on the Piazza or a golden hour dog walk.


2. Reggae Nights Summer Concert

Date: August 2, 2024

Location: James Island County Park

Time: 7:30 pm

Gates open at 7:30pm, music begins at 8pm. Enjoy live music, food trucks and local craft vendors under the oaks! Dogs are welcome but must remain on a leash.


3. Southeast Crab Feast

Date: August 4, 2024

Location: Wannamaker Park

Time: 1:00 pm

This highly anticipated event will offer ALL YOU CAN EAT fresh Blue Crabs, one side of Fish & Chips, Music and a family friendly environment for everyone.


4. Dog Day Afternoon

Date: August 17, 2024

Location: Waterpark Areas at Mt. Pleasant, James Island and Wannamaker County Park

Time: 10-12pm and 1-3pm (two sessions)

Celebrate the dog days of summer with man's best friend at the waterparks and pool after they have closed for the season. $15 per dog in advance; $20 per dog at the gate, if available. Owners are free with their pets.


5. Yappy Hour

Date: August 22, 2024

Location: James Island County Park

Time: 5:30-7:30 pm

Dogs and their owners are invited to the dog park for an evening of live music, cold beverages, and fun! Live music from Michael Duff starts at 5:30pm.


From scenic parks to historic plantations, Charleston embraces its title as a dog-friendly destination with open arms. Don't miss out on these fun summertime events with your furry friend as we wrap up the summer season!
